Setup Revive to Sky

Installation of the Plugin

You can install Revive to Sky in a number of ways:-

Installation from the WordPress Repository

  1. Log into your WordPress dashboard and go to Plugins > Add New
  2. Search for “Revive To Sky”
  3. Click “Install Now” and then “Activate”

Manual Insallation

  1. Download the latest version of the plugin from this link.
  2. Log into your WordPress dashboard and go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin
  3. Browse to find the plugin on your computer.
  4. Click “Install Now”.
  5. Click “Activate” when the plugin has installed

Plugin Setup

To set up the plugin and to get your site talking to Bluesky, you will need to set up an App within Bluesky. To do the following, first log into Bluesky and go to Settings > Privacy & Security > App Passwords (or click here).

Click App Password and give your App a name (something obvious like “Revive to Sky – My Site”).

We don’t need access to your direct messages, so leave that unticked, click “Next”.

On the next page you’ll be shown an App Password, copy this to a safe place and then click done!

Return to WordPress and go to Settings > Revive to Sky. At the top of the page fill in your Bluesky Handle with your handle with the account you logged into, and the App Password from the previous step.

Customisation

The rest of the page is dedicated to customising the plugin. Here’s what each option does:-

  • Message Every…. this option sets the amount of time between messages being put on your Bluesky account. It’s not 100% accurate, as it relies on WordPress’ internal cron features, which rely on visitors to your site. However it is a minimum length of time between messages. Generally I recommend a number of hours for busy accounts, days for quiet accounts.
  • Categories/Tags to Include/Exclude… this will allow you to choose which categories and tags to pick posts from, or avoid. A good idea (if you’re not using tags on the front end) is to create a “Do Not Revive” tag, and exclude posts from that category. If no boxes are ticked, every published post will be used.
  • Message Template this option will allow you to set the message template for the post to Bluesky. There are a couple of variables:
    • %%POSTTITLE%% in the template will be replaced with the Post Title
    • %%POSTURL%% in the template will be replaced with the Post URL
